Me, Myself and I

Growing up, I've always had a fascination with art and technology. Back then, the internet didn't even exist in homes so I made do with pencil and paper and started to explore the world of photography hands-on.

Shooting film was a great way to appreciate the skill and fundamentals of photography , lighting and composition. In later years with the explosion of information via the internet and rapid digital developments in camera technology, my passion for photography evolved beyond just a hobby. I found myself actively involved in film making too.

In my early thirties I turned pro to specialise in weddings and portrait photography. As a modern photographer I benefit from being technical, reactive and artistic. When I ask someone to smile for the camera, I'm analysing a whole magnitude of things: distractions in the background, the position of the main light source, the quality of light and shadow on their face, the reflectivity of the scene, their pose and body language, colour and overall composition, and more depending on the conditions. Sometimes these things are within my control, but usually not without compromise - so I have to work smart and be charming and organised with people to get the best shot. This is what makes a professional wedding photographer different to someone who just takes snaps. Wedding photography is a high pressure environment not for the inexperienced amateur. One risk you can easily avoid taking.

A great photographer in my opinion is also an artist and will develop your pictures back in the studio with equal care and passion. The end result is a one off - it has to impress.

To do my job well and reflect the prices I charge today (which remain very low for the quality), I've invested in the best equipment - around £8,000 just in Canon 'L' lenses, and I currently use the full frame Canon 5DMK2 as my camera of choice. This kit means I am always ready to handle any situation and achieve the best quality of photography for you. Dealing with low light or mixed light can be a real challenge, and photographers with cheaper equipment will not get satisfactory results. I hope more people learn to appreciate this when choosing their wedding photographer.

I'm often told I'm very easygoing, accommodating and friendly. The image of the egotistical photographer is not one I wish to share. My client feedback remains consistently one of praise I'm pleased to say.

So here I am at the age of 38, married with two beautiful children and doing a job I really love and privileged to be working with couples on one of the best day of their lives. I aim to treat all my clients as my friends and we'll get to know each other pretty well if I have the pleasure to work with you.

Do feel free to contact me at anytime - client or not.
